What is Yoga

Developed in India thousands of years ago, Yoga often is described as the “eight-limbed” path for living as first described in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.

Traditionally, there are four main branches of yoga: Raja (self-control), Bhakti (devotional), Karma (service), Jnana (scholar).  Other minor branches include Kundalini and Tantra.  Most Western yoga, including this schools version, are based upon three components of Raja yoga:

  • asana (physical poses)
  • pranayama (breath control)
  • meditation.

What can I expect from your classes?

I teach a beginning-level, Vinyasa-yoga based program focusing on using conscious breathing to link body and mind.

Vinyasa yoga is a moderately challenging form of yoga where each asana (posture) is joined with the next to create a flowing, dance-like sequence.

If you have any health concerns or haven't had a physical in a while, get a physician's okay before taking up Yoga (or any exercise system)

What are some of the Benefits of Yoga

Preliminary studies in the United States and India suggest that Yoga maybe helpful for specific conditions, such as asthma, epilepsy, anxiety, stress and others.
